ALL THE THINGS YOU SHOULD DO!
THE DO'S AND DONT'S
1 - All about shoes! Athletic shoes CAN be ok if you choose on trend sales that don't look overly worn or dirty.
2 - When in doubt, go neutral.
3- Accessorize! Add hats, scarves, beanies, jewelry. Have fun with it!
4- Don't be afraid of color. Bold colors are fun. Do avoid neons and orange, it doesn't photograph well. (Burnt orange is great though)
5- Polos are great, but try to wear one without the brand logo showing.
6- Seniors-Don't bring many people to the shoot.
7- Bring the fur babies!

Figure out your vibe.
You want these photos to reflect your family. Not really the ritzy family? (We're not either) We all know kids (and husbands) are terrible at hiding their emotions when they're uncomfortable. Skip the bow tie and suit jacket if its not your thing.
Some possible vibes you can go for: earthy, boho, modern, urban, formal, minimalist, punk. Seriously Pinterest is your new best friend for ideas.
Figure out your colors
Think of how you are going to use these photos in the future. You really want to think about what will look good with your home decor if you plan to hang this on the wall. If you are going to use for Christmas cards; I wouldn't go full bright red and bright green, but more almost maroon and deep greens. If mom wants a beautiful floral dress, then the others should be coordinating solids. Only one person in the group should wear a pattern. Also consider the location for your shoot. If we are going to be in a green grass field..avoid light green
Don't forget accessories
You've done your shopping and you're basically a walking Pinterest board. You're feeling good about it all. The kids took a nap so everyone is in a good mood. Now its time to get dressed and you notice your husband puts on his grass cutting tennis shoes with neon orange accent. You can't hide the horror on your face and you know good and well he has other shoes to wear. I'm not saying go out and buy fancy shoes, but do wear shoes that reflect and complement the vibe. Thankfully we are in the South so I'm sure he can wear his nicer cowboy or work boots! I mentioned before, but I LOVE A GOOD HAT! bring the hat, (I have several you can borrow). Wear the bracelet stack, the cute shoes you normally can't walk in.
LAYER, LAYER, LAYER
I'm not sure what more needs to be said. Layer the looks in Fall, Spring and Winter. Add a denim jacket over the sequin dress. Wear the off-shoulder flannel with your tank top and jean shorts. Mix textures that you normally would't use together. Cable knit sweater and leather skirt...YES.
